Nutritional deficiencies in geraniums (Macronutrients)

Elenco dei principali minerali che hanno un ruolo importante nella crescita di queste piante, si dividono in Macronutrienti e Micronutrienti. La loro carenza porta ad una colorazione anomala delle foglie.

Azoto (N)

è un elemento importante per la crescita del fusto e delle foglie (crescita vegetativa ). La carenza di azoto rallenta la crescita e lo sviluppo delle piante. Queste appaiono rachitiche, le foglie inferiori are light green while the upper ones remain green, and early flowering is greatly reduced. The prolonged nitrogen deficiency causes yellowing (chlorosis) of leaves followed by necrosis of leaf margins resulting in browning and death. Fosforo ( P )

aiuta la pianta ad immagazzinare energia per la formazione dei fiori, è necessario per la germinazione dei semi. Nella carenza di fosforo le foglie appaiono più scure del normale e hanno una crescita ridotta. Con l’avanzare del deficit le foglie più basse e vecchie presentano lungo i margini una pigmentazione irregolare di colore rosso o viola che alla fine marrone poi marrone scuro e muoiono. La fioritura e’ scarsa e a volte può verificarsi una caduta prematura di quest’ultima. Il fosforo deve essere applicato vicino alle radici in modo che la pianta possa utilizzarlo subito. L’applicazione di grandi quantità di fosforo senza adeguati livelli di zinco può causare una carenza di zinco.

 

Potassio ( K )

è importante per la tolleranza alla siccità, aiuta nella resistenza al freddo ed esalta il colore dei fiori. Nella carenza di potassio l’ingiallimento delle foglie inizia dal margine e può estendersi anche all'interno; successivamente i tessuti colpiti diventano necrotici e la foglia assume un ripiegamento a doccia, i germogli e il fusto sono poco lignificati, l'apparato radicale è più sensibile a malattie. Col tempo la clorosi si intensifica, anche gli steli appaiono clorotici, sulle foglie scompare la nervatura e dal giallo passa al bianco, le piante appaiono stentate e con ridotta fioritura. Nei terreni alcalini il ferro può essere abbondante ma non disponibile per le piante, si consigliano trattamenti fogliari con concimazioni con preparati contenente DTPA e trattamenti a livello radicale tramite fertirrigazione con preparati contenente EDDHA.
